12 Days of
Holiday Wines 2024 – Half Bottles
Gaston
Chiquet Champagne ‘Tradition’ 1er Cru NV -
A vivacious Champagne, showing the balance to
recommend this as an aperitif but the focus to
pair with food. Well-cut acidity is integrated
with the refined mousse and notes of ripe black
cherry and blackberry paste, Meyer lemon peel,
biscuit and white blossoms. The finish is
lingering and mineral-driven.
Hippolyte
Reverdy Sancerre 2023 - Dip your
nose in a glass of Reverdy’s Sancerre to activate
a mouthwatering response, almost Pavlovian in its
immediacy. Reverdy’s Sancerre is the most iconic
of the Sancerre domaines Kermit Lynch
imports, a beacon of excellence like Tempier is to
Bandol, this reaches soaring heights with its
puckery, herbal appeal and persistent palate. If
you haven’t tried it, this is a great vintage to
see what all the fuss is about.
Nathalie
and Gilles Fevre, Chablis 1er Cru ‘Fourchaume’
2022 - Our Chablis Fourchaume 1er
Cru (one of the most noted Chablis 1ers crus)
originates from vineyards situated on long slopes
facing the sunrise, allowing rapid soil warm up
which aids quality maturing. This Premier
Cru is long and rich, with fruity flavours and
mineral notes. Good matches will include
shellfish, raw or fried, along with poultry and
cream sauce.
Roar Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir 2022
- The Franscioni family traces their lineage back
to the early 1900s, making them one of the
historic families in the Santa Lucia Highlands.
Gary Franscioni and his wife, Rosella, developed
many of the key sites in the appellation, some of
them with long-time friend Gary Pisoni. This blend
of some of the top vineyards in all of California
is always a wise investment. Aromas of red cherry
and plum meet with sagebrush on the nose, while
the palate brings a creamier cherry flavor
alongside toasty baking spice and cookie crumble
elements.
Honig Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 - Another
classic Honig Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
expressing a lovely combination of black raspberry
and cherry enhanced by savory notes, exotic
spices, and cocoa nibs. The texture is rich,
framed by just the right amount of tannin and
acid, giving a sense of perfect balance. While
enjoyable upon release, this wine will age
gracefully through 2031 and longer if you would
like.
Clos La Coutale Cahors 2021 - If you are as
eager as I am to enter the season of stews,
roasts, and game, you cannot go wrong with Clos La
Coutale’s earthy and spicy Cahors as your new
go-to rouge. Originating halfway between Bordeaux
and Montpellier, this blend of mostly Malbec and a
splash of Merlot has both the class and rusticity
to make a pot that’s been braising for hours on
your stove feel at once comforting and refined.
The notes of plum, brambly fruit, and leather sing
alongside a cassoulet or duck confit. If nearby
Bordeaux (where Coutale’s Philippe Bernède
sources the grand cru barrels) is the polished and
urbane one in the family, Cahors is the sneakily
sophisticated but humbler country cousin, loaded
with personality you’ll enjoy getting to know.
La Spinetta Barbera d’Asti ‘Ca del Pian’ 2022
- Ca' Di Pian is a superb example of Barbera
d’Asti, known for its depth and richness. It
presents a well-structured profile with vibrant
acidity and a smooth, elegant finish. Produced by
La Spinetta, a renowned estate in Piedmont, the
winery is celebrated for its high-quality wines
and innovative approach. Their commitment to
excellence is evident in this Barbera, which
combines traditional methods with modern
techniques to achieve a wine with exceptional
balance and complexity. This Barbera pairs well
with a variety of dishes, including pasta, roasted
meats, and aged cheeses.
Paolo Conterno ‘Riva del Bric’ Barolo 2020 - Just
mid ruby. Open-knit, super-approachable nose of
cinnamon bark and marasca cherry. Lots of supple,
ripe and almost rich fruit, quiet the charmer! The
firm tannins are effortlessly absorbed by the
concentrated fruit. Long, perhaps, no, definitely
hedonistic. Already giving lots of pleasure.
La Gerla Brunello di Montalcino 2018 -
Attractively layered with spiced red plum,
balsamic, and sweet cedar. Seamless and
approachable, it is medium bodied, with a soft
mineral texture and super-fine tannins. Fresh red
cherry, orange rind, and delicate salty earth
intertwine and find fantastic balance throughout.
It is a beautiful wine with lovely drinkability.
Chateau Musar Rouge 2017 - From Bekaa Valley,
Lebanon- The standard bearer for the burgeoning
wine industry of this ancient wine region. Unique
blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan
aged in French oak, behaves very much like a
Bordeaux. Mature cassis and plum fruit is nuanced
with sandalwood and spice.
L'Esprit de Chevalier, Pessac-Leognan 2014 -
Knowing that Chevalier made a brilliant Grand Vin
in 2014, and their l'Espirit is always sneaky
good, we decided to give it whirl. Tasting it,
immediately a smile comes to face, as it delivered
on all accounts, and then some. Good deep red
fruits on the nose, which follows on the palate
with cherry, blackberry, and cedar. But what
really stands out is how serious this wine is -
the texture, flavor, depth, and finish all speak
to a wine that far above this price point. At ten
years past the vintage, it is drinking perfectly,
but I wouldn't hesitate to see how it continues to
evolve over the next decade. A sleeper value of
the highest order in aged Bordeaux
Echo de Lynch-Bages, Pauillac 2015 - The
2015 Echo de Lynch Bages has grown into a gorgeous
second wine. Pliant, supple and inviting, the 2015
is very nicely framed by silky tannins that add
considerable appeal and early approachability.
There is striking purity to the red cherry and
plum fruit, while lifted, floral aromatics
contribute brightness. Echo is in one of the most
complete, alluring second wines.

Holiday Wines 2024 – Full Bottles
Eric
Rodez Grand Cru 'Cuvée des Crayères' Extra Brut
NV
Having been the cellar master at Krug and having
lineage who have been growers for more than a
hundred years in the village of Ambonnay, Eric Rodez
has some serious clout when it comes to
Champagne. With its notes of almonds, white
flowers, ripe pear and quince fruit, this
non-vintage Ambonnay blend, is silky and rich, dense
but not heavy. Rodez explains “t's all about
Ambonnay.” Blend of 40% Chardonnay and 60%
Pinot Noir.
Ciro
Picariello Fiano di Avellino 'Ciro 906' 2021
This Fiano di Avellino from Ciro Picariello is a
premium expression of the Fiano grape from Campania.
Known for its complexity and elegance, this wine
offers aromas of citrus, white flowers, and stone
fruits, with distinct mineral notes that reflect the
volcanic terroir. The '906' bottling comes from the
highest quality parcels and undergoes extended
aging, providing richness and depth on the palate.
With vibrant acidity and a long, persistent finish,
it pairs beautifully with seafood, pasta with white
sauces, and aged cheeses.
Vincent
Pinard Sancerre 'Cuvée Flores' 2022 -
Domaine Vincent Pinard continues a 20-generation
tradition of winemaking in Sancerre. The current
Domaine, helmed by Florent and Clémente Pinard, are
laser-focused on creating wines with a sense of
place, specializing on site-specific cuvées that are
different expressions of this special terroir. The
Pinards are creating wines that have weight and
depth, a far cry from the straightforward Sancerres
produced by so many others. Mineral-rich expressions
like this Florès are crafted with an organic
winemaking approach. The 2022 Florès is delicate and
poised. It is easy to approach with its gentle
texture and fine, mouthcoating texture, which leaves
you licking your lips, a model of purity, intensity
and balance.
Domaine
Vocoret Chablis 'Le Bas de Chapelot' 2022 -
The Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot had the fruit ripen
earlier than usual with more intense aromas in the
2022 vintage. It has a lovely peachy,
nectarine-tinged bouquet that blossoms in the glass.
The palate is well-balanced with touches of
grapefruit and white peach. It is very elegant and
pure, with a touch of spice towards the finish.
Simply a mouthwatering prospect - difficult to
believe this is not a Premier Cru considering the
quality, richness and density.
Racines Pinot Noir 'Sainte Rose' 2020
Racines is a collaboration by two classic houses
from France, led by Etienne de Montille and Brian
Sieve of Burgundy and
Rodolphe Peters of Champagne. This Pinot is sourced
from four well established, reputable vineyards, La
Encantada, Domaine de la Cote, Sanford &
Benedict and La Rinconada. The vineyard sites for
this cuvée’s first bottling are all located off of
Santa Rosa Road, or its French translation, Sainte
Rose. This is a blend of the best barrels from
those sites, offering up copious black cherry, plum,
mocha, leather, liquorice and spice. 3,000
bottles produced.
Paradigm Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Paradigm produces five wines entirely from
impeccable, estate-grown fruit. Winemaker Heidi
Barrett has some of Napa's finest terroir with which
to work. Located on the Oakville grade with
immediate neighbors like Bond, Harlan, Promontory,
and Dominus, the Paradigm Winery crafts wines of
extreme value for their price points. Easily
punches above its weight and comparable with wines
2-3x the price. Open in it in the morning and
put the cork back in, or decant for 1-2 hours before
enjoying.
Domaine de la Grosse Pierre 'Chiroubles' 2022
Another superb young wine from this outstanding
vintage, the wine is bright, full-bodied and nicely
structured out of the blocks, with an inviting and
seductive core of perfectly ripe fruit, great
back-end mineral drive and grip, buried tannins and
impeccable balance on the long and complex
finish...you guys, we bought the rest the importer
had left in stock.
J.L. Chave Crozes-Hermitage 'Silene' 2022
This is a fantastic red from the formidable team at
J.L. Chave in the Northern Rhone. Masters,
heck, one could argue Royals of the Rhône (whose
estate Hermitage goes for $350+ plus these days!)
the J.L. Chave Selection wines are négociant
bottlings made from a combination of purchased and
estate fruit. In the case of the complex and
powerful Silene, the grapes are sourced from
hillside vineyards in the Larnage and Gervans
villages. Silene has a pretty, complex, and elegant
perfume of red berries, spring flowers, cedary herbs
and pepper, with some classic Northern Rhône bacon
fat. Nicely textured, medium-bodied and elegant,
with good ripeness, it's a classic-styled Crozes.
Perfect with lamb, beef and pork. A terrific Syrah
from this estate that's well worth your time and
money.
Agricola Brandini Barolo Annunziata 2017
The Barolo DOCG “Annunziata” 2017 by Agricola
Brandini exemplifies Piedmontese winemaking
excellence, offering deep garnet hues, intricate
aromas of rose petals, red berries, truffle, and
leather, enriched by delicately integrated oak
nuances. Its structured palate, marked by velvety
tannins and lively acidity, promises aging
potential. Perfect for sophisticated pairings, it
reflects Brandini’s commitment to organic
viticulture and the rich terroir of Barolo.
La Spinetta 'Sezzana' Riserva Toscana IGT 2007
While Giorgio Rivetti is largely known for his
Piedmont offerings, he also makes wonderful wines
from Tuscany. The 'Sezzana' is a twin of the
Sassontino, another Sangiovese grown on different
soil type. The grape is always 100% Sangiovese
from 45-year-old vines, but the Sezzana vineyard
sees heavier, volcanic soils with gravel and larger
stones. (The two vineyard sites, Sezzana and
Sassontino, are located only six kilometers
apart!) The Sezzana is a more muscular wine
with aromas of red berries, rose, white pepper and
minerals whose harmonious acidity grants balance and
character to the important structure and fruit at
the wine’s core. ***Library Release***
Tenuta dell'Ornellaia 'Le Volte' 2022
Instantly enjoyable, versatile and playful, Le Volte
dell’Ornellaia is all about conviviality. This
bright red wine opens the door to the world of
Ornellaia and simply shares the passion for quality
that is experienced every day on the estate and with
every sip. The 2022 shows ripe fruity aromas such as
cherries and blackberries, in addition to black
pepperiness. The palate is generous with
considerable body at first, followed by smooth and
enduring tannins. Upbeat freshness and pleasurable
fruity aromas make up the finish. 51% Cabernet
Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot
Baron Philippe de Rothschild Chateau d'Armailhac
2015
Ch. d'Armailhac has all the hallmarks of its big
brother, Ch. Mouton Rothschild, this year. The
property is found right next door and shares many of
the qualities that have made its illustrious sibling
so famous. It is creamy, brimming, full of
dark, dense blackberries and has a lovely savory
finish. This is seriously juicy, with succulent ripe
fruits that dominate the palate. The cool and racy
undertones are really pleasing. Full of flair and
gravitas, it is a real treat. We had the good
fortune of attending a Mouton Rothschild luncheon
earlier this fall and this was just singing
harmoniously and one of the highlights of our 2024
tastings.
