Let's Welcome the Dunites

Dunites Wine Company
Dunites is a small winery named after an eclectic group of 1930s metropolitan refugees who settled in the beach dunes of San Luis Obispo county. This group proudly described themselves as a collection of free thinkers, artists, nudists, and poets.
Dunites Wine Co. draws inspiration from these people and from the remote beauty of the coastal dunes where they lived.
Husband‑and‑wife team Tyler Eck and Rachel Goffinet produces pure, elegant wines that respect the coastal influence of vineyard sites located on the uplifted seafloor and ancient sand dunes of the SLO Coast.
Eric Asimov from the New York Times was so enthralled with the region and its wines he dedicated an entire column to the place:
Our first encounter with the wines was just over a week ago. We tasted the line-up and loved every bottle.
Below is a short recap. The wines are highly recommended.

2025 Dunites Wine Company "Dunedelion"  White
$26.50

This is the wine of Spring:
An Albariño + Sauvignon Blanc blend

Refreshing flavors of white peach, cantaloupe, and lime zest make this wine a perfect occasion for warm Spring evenings. Sauvignon Blanc and Albariño are often compared to each other, but rarely blended. These varieties complement each other to form a wine that is fruity and floral, light bodied, and with refreshing acidity.

There's depth and complexity here too yet the wine doesn't take itself too seriously. A perfect complement to these warm days
2024 Dunites Wine Company Pinot Noir SLO Coast
2024 Dunites Wine Company Pinot Noir SLO Coast
$34

First a little geography lesson for the SLO Coast AVA
North–south: About 70–80 miles of coastline from Ragged Point (north of San Simeon/Cambria) south through Morro Bay, Avila, Pismo, Arroyo Grande and Nipomo to just north of Santa Maria and the Santa Barbara County line.
East–west: All qualifying vineyard land west of the Santa Lucia Mountains ridgeline, generally less than15 miles from the Pacific.

A few of the wineries producing here include Scar of the Sea, Lady of the Sunshine, Outward, and Phelan Farm.

This second wine in the line-up is a clear, bright expression of Pinot Noir. Juicy boysenberry and pomegranate, pure and elegant with snappy acidity. This is a "slamming" value and one not to miss.
2024 Dunites Wine Company Dune Song

2024 Dunites Wine Company Dune Song
$26.50

The third wine is another impressive and overperforming wine, this one a blend of 62% Syrah and 38% Grenache from Hi Kite and Rancho Arroyo Grande, respectively.
Lovely black and red berry fruit, hints of exotic citrus, lovely savory minerality, white pepper, tangerine peel and dark-toned florals strike the palate before a mouthwatering finish. One over simplified note we took said, "Juicy Goodness". This is a wine you want to drink again and again.

This is a uniquely refined and alluring expression of the San Luis Obispo Coast.
