Let's
begin with André Porcheret
André
Porcheret is a renowned Burgundy winemaker
whose career has spanned decades at some
of the most prestigious domaines in the
region. He began his rise to prominence as
the cellar manager at the Hospices de
Beaune, one of Burgundy’s most important
estates. He was then selected by Lalou
Bize-Leroy in 1988 to help establish
Domaine Leroy, serving as winemaker
at the newly founded estate.
At
Domaine Leroy, his visionary approach to
organic and biodynamic viticulture laid
the groundwork for the domaine’s current
international reputation as an icon of
Burgundy.
In
1989 Porcheret took charge of
Domaine Douhairet-Porcheret
and today he is considered one of the
region’s most significant winemaking
figures of the past half-century.
Which
brings us to these two wines.
Like
legendary winemaker Henri
Jayer, Porcheret insists on 100%
destemming of grapes for all his wines
believing destemming enhances purity,
freshness, and overall quality.
The
first wine:
2022
Domaine Monthelie-Douhairet-Porcheret
Volnay 1er Cru En Champans
(France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune)
$125
is
vibrantly fresh, energetic, alive, with
mouth-watering clarity, juicy, bright red
fruit, spice and floral notes, that
'famed' forest floor aroma, with elegant
texture making this wine a superb
expression of Volnay's En Champans.
Next
we have:
2022 Domaine
Monthelie-Douhairet-Porcheret
Vosne-Romanée
(France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits)
$150
a
wine with a little more 'crunch' and racy
red berry fruit. There's stunning aromatic
complexity here, refined tannins,
brilliant balance and acidity, and a deep,
satisfying finish. Beautifully inviting,
fresh, precise, pinpoint perfect.
With
many wines from Burgundy, these are
limited. If interested please let us know.
