2020 Sziegl Pince Babel
(Hungary)
$28
50% Kékfrankos, 30% Merlot,
10% Kadarka, 5% Zweigelt, 5%
Portugieser.
This is essentially a “Siller,” which
is in between a light red and a rosé.
There's bright acidity, crunchy, pale,
red berry fruit, brambly spice, a
lovely savoriness and a hint of fizz.
This is groovy, joyful juice!

2018 Gotsa Saperavi (Georgia,
Kartli)
$30
Another elegant, light red with notes
of wild strawberry, near-ripe cherry,
and spice notes that dance on the
palate. There's also shades of
outrageously cool baking spices and a
finish that blends apricot, plum,
nectarine and blood orange seamlessly.

2020 Amiran Vepkhvadze's Wine
Cellar Chuck + Gabi
(Georgia, Imereti)
$28
Staying on theme, this
light red is super-drinkable,
super-enjoyable. It's a symphony of
gorgeous, elegant, red fruit +
undertones of nectarine and apricot.
Clean juice with a lovely spice on the
finish. This deserves a WOW! |

2017 Stumpf Pincészet Kékfrankos
Nagy-Eged (Hungary,
Felso-Magyarország, Eger)

This single-vineyard, 100%
Kekfrankos is full of spirit. Bright

No kidding.

2017 Batic Cabernet Franc
(Slovenia, Primorska, Vipava Valley)
$38
Located in Slovenia’s renowned
Vipava Valley, just five miles from the
border of Italy, this continuously run,
430-year-old winemaking estate is truly
one of a kind. Miha’s 19 hectares are
spread throughout three small villages
and each one is naturally farmed to the
highest degree. While they do hold both
organic and biodynamic certifications,
the Batič family goes much deeper,
almost crossing into another dimension.
Violets, cacao, black and blue plums,
black raspberry, tobacco leaf, and sweet
herbs lift out of the glass, followed by
intense earthy savor and ripe black
cherries. The palate is pure energy: the
wine dances and glides in seamless
fashion. Well done. |
