Renegade Wines 2020 New Arrivals

January is almost over??? At least there's a ton of new wines to explore at Renegade!

Let's begin with Eastern Europe:

2017 Primoz Stoka Teran Penece (Slovenia, Primorska, Kras) $24.50
A red sparkling wine made from the grape Teran. Historically, Teran from Kras has been prized for its medicinal properties. The high content of iron oxide in the Karst soil, gives the soil the characteristic red color and the wines their unusually high iron content. This "pétillant-naturel" or pet nat is epic.
Bright cranberry and playful red berry notes. Lightly sparkling, savory, and utterly delicious.

2018 Bott Frigyes Kekfrankos
(Slovakia) $30
Also known as Blaufrankisch, this Kekfrankos from Slovakia is bright and racy.
Creatively distracting once it's in the glass.

2016 Monastrey Tvrdos Vranac
(Bosnia-Herzegovina, Trebinje) $28
This is a striking wine. An understated richness pairs well with the gorgeous red berry fruit and playful acidity.
If you've never had a wine from Bosnia, this is THE ONE you have to try.
Prefect with tri-tip, steak and frites, urban street tacos.
Oh. The grape is Vranac, native to the Montenegro region.

2018 La Cappuccina Soave
(Italy, Veneto, Soave) $16
This new discovery is gorgeous. 100% Garganega.
Bright, fresh, fun. This may just be your new house white.
A suave wine from Soave.

2018 Alois Lageder Chardonnay
(Italy, Alto Adige) $16
Ha! And again: Ha! This is utterly delicious, savory, inviting, intriguing Chardonnay for the ridiculous price of sixteen dollars. Wow!
Perfect for large gatherings or an intimate rendevousz.

2005 Lopez de Heredia Rioja Blanco Reserva Vina Tondonia
(Spain, Rioja) $68
So this arrived the other day. 2005. Current vintage. The wine speaks for itself: It's world-class. Beeswax, salted almonds, straw and honey. Epic and historic.

2017 Daniele Piccinin Bianco dei Muni
(Italy, Veneto IGT) $20
From the Venice region made from a grape name Durello (although various sources tell us there's a bit of PG and Chard in the mix). It's natural and pretty darn perfect! Pairs will with grilled scallops, roast chicken, a roaring fire...

2017 Cuturi Fiano Segreto di Bianca
(Italy, Puglia IGT) $16
Another perfectly natural wine that tastes amazing. This 100% Fiano is clean and crisp, delivering refreshing meyer lemon, white grapefruit, white peach notes with a subtle saline backbone. Produced at the very historic Masseria Cuturi, dating back to 1881.

2012 Delamotte Champagne Blanc de Blancs
(France, Champagne) $108
It goes without saying (but we'll say it): Excellent Champagne from an excellent vintage. It will need a few years of cellaring but the reward for patience will be ample.
Their website suggests pairing it with truffle-stuffed chicken in a Suprême sauce.
We may just try it this weekend!

2016 Monje Tradicional Tinto (Spain, Canary Islands) $26
The Monje family has been making wine since 1750. For generations they have passed their passion for and knowledge of the land from father to son. Today Felipe Monje continues the family tradition. Felipe stewards some of the oldest vines on Tenerife (300+++ years old!) and his cellar, full of 200-year old barrels. This may be the 'coolest' wine we've had in the store in years.
Crunchy crushed raspberries, rose hips, all-spice + tellicherry pepper. Endless finish. And did we mention? CANARY ISLANDS! Let's Go!

2017 Guilhem 'Pot de Vin' Merlot (France, Languedoc Roussillon) $14.50
You're thinking MERLOT?!?
But this is honestly good, organic, Merlot. It's what Merlot use to be: classic and graceful. Finish the glass? You'll want another.

2017 Primitivo Quiles Cono 4 (Spain, Valencia) $14.50
100% Monastrell, also known as Mourvedre, or Mataro.
Primitivo Quiles is the oldest wine producer in Alicante, and one of the great survival stories in Spanish winemaking. Don Primitivo Quiles established his vineyards and winery in 1780 and has passed the operation along from one Primitivo to the next, generation after generation. It’s a hearty, full-throttle red that would be right at home with a grilled New York steak.

2018 Chateau Thivin Cote de Brouilly (France, Burgundy, Beaujolais) $32
The new vintage of this phenomenal Gamay has just arrived. Lean, fresh, spicy. Terrific wine from a incredible vintage.

2013 La Spinetta 'CP' Toscana IGT (Italy, Tuscanty) $13.50
100% Sangiovese grown on Travertine limestone.
CP (“centopercento”) a varietally-focused, value-driven project that concentrates on indigenous Italian grape varieties. From La Spinetta!
This is almost to good to be true!

1977 Graham Porto (Portugal, Douro) $145
From the Renegade Bomb Shelter.
This port is just reaching its perfect point.
Magnificent, powerful and fully engaging. Harmonious with perfect balance. Violets, cassis, plum coulis, blackberries, cigar box, baking spice and mint. A very long and lively finish. A must!
